A French Brunch Cafe and Bar in Brooklyn

Project Designed for a Virtual Company and Client with Jiyeong Lee and Jessica Kim

Bar and Standing Tables.jpg

While redesigning a restaurant in Brooklyn, I actively immersed myself in the actual interior industry by working closely with team members on construction drawings. Focusing on bridging the gap between the contrasting atmospheres of a bar and a cafe, we concentrated on creating an interior ambiance that seamlessly blended the two. Red was chosen as the accent color, complemented by warm tones such as ivory, cream, gold, and wood to complete the color scheme. Strategically placing bar tables directly under the skylight maximized their utilization. A U-shaped sofa near the entrance ensures comfortable seating for customers of all ages. The courtyard serves as a space for families to enjoy during the day and transforms into a versatile area for parties and gatherings at night.

Vitural Client

The client is a thirty-year-old French man who recently arrived in the United States and aims to establish L'Épicurien, a French brunch cafe by day and a bar by night in Brooklyn. The goal is to promote French food and bar culture. The name, L'Épicurien, conveys a sense of indulgence, making it suitable for both brunch and a bar setting. The establishment will serve French-style brunch menus during the day, featuring items like croissants, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, and fried eggs. In the afternoon, it will transition into a bar, offering drinks and French-style finger foods such as cheese onion tart, cheese souffle, and mini-croque monsieur. Each plate will be priced between $20 and $30, with none exceeding $50. The target audience includes families with young children, married young couples, and individuals ranging from kids to their 30s.

Material Collage

The concept provide spatial comfort through the use of red color harmony, inspired by the local French restaurant with a touch of luxury. Due to the small size of the space, we started this material scheme with a single color that would be memorable from their first visit. Focusing on red, they aimed for a warm atmosphere.
